Fear haunts Jammu
Mehboob Khan in Jammu
In view of the escalating tension between India and Pakistan, the Jammu region has been put on high alert and emergency measures enforced to face any eventuality.
The civil defence committee is holding meetings frequently to discuss the situation.
About 100,000 people from the border areas in Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts have so far migrated to safer places.
Security forces have already been deployed on both sides of the Border. This has triggered fear in the local people, forcing them to think 'anything could happen'.
''Pakistan cannot be trusted at all. So we should be prepared to face any eventuality,'' say people in the region.
According to highly placed sources, a contingency plan has been implemented by the security and administrative agencies in the region.
