Missing Pak spy and his Indian contact arrested
The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested a former constable of the Border Security Force, Jeet Singh, the contact man for a staff member of the Pakistan High Commission, Dil Fayyaz, who has been expelled for spying.
Jeet Singh, who was remanded in 14-days police custody today, was arrested yesterday for suspected espionage near the Hindon air force base in Ghaziabad alongwith Dil Fayyaz, Amar Nath Gupta, a spokesman of the Ghaziabad Police, said. Dil Fayyaz had gone missing yesterday and Pakistan had charged that he was abducted by the Indian authorities.
V K Gupta, DIG, Meerut, said some important documents regarding details of army units at Pathankot, Jaisalmer and Jammu were recovered from Jeet Singh.
Amar Nath Gupta said the two were nabbed yesterday by a Special Operation Group of the UP police led by SSP Devendra Singh Chouhan. He said the SOG had specific information that Jeet Singh worked for a foreign agent after quitting the BSF. Following the information Jeet Singh was kept under surveillance.
Jeet Singh, who stays in Sector 22, Noida, initially identified himself as Anil Sharma, a resident of Meerut. However, after sustained interrogation the two disclosed their real identities. Dil Fayyaz said he was from Islamabad and an employee of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
He also disclosed that he was an official of the 16 Azad Kashmir Regiment based at Gujranwala, and had been on deputation in the Pakistan High Commission mainly for espionage activities.
During interrogation Dil Fayyaz admitted that he used to collect information from his various contacts about different establishments of Indian troops, their movements and places of strategic importance and send the information to Pakistan through the high commission.
A case was registered at the Sahibabad police station under the Official Secrets Act.
