One dies, 3 injured in Pak shelling

Shelling by Pakistani troops from across the Line of Control has killed one person and injured several others in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir while largescale migration of people from the border areas to safer places in Akhnoor and Samba sectors continued.

An official spokesman in Jammu said today that shells fired from across the LoC hit three members of a family, Khan Mohammad, Maqsooda Bi and Mirza Bi, at village Duasba in Poonch district last evening.

They were admitted to the district hospital where Khan Mohammad succumbed to his injuries. Their house was also damaged.

Mortar shelling from across the LoC also took place at Dharance and Dheri Dalri areas of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district, he said and added that no loss of life and property has been reported from there.

The spokesman said that 'small arms firing' took place in Bhawani area of Rajouri district last night, but no loss of life and property was reported.

He said that due to shelling, largescale migration of people from various border areas of the Jammu region had been taking place. People of about 20 villages in Akhnoor, Pallanwallah and Pargwal have migrated to safer places.

In the Samba sector also, people from many villages have started migrating to safer places.

According to the spokesman, Pakistani rangers resorted to light weapon firing along the LoC and heavy weapon firing took place in Pallanwallah area.
