Karnataka assembly dissolvedKarnataka Governor Khurshed Alam Khan today dissolved the legislative assembly. A one-sentence Raj Bhavan communique said the governor dissolved the assembly, accepting the recommendation of the cabinet. The communique was, however, silent on whether Chief Minister J H Patel would continue in a care-taker capacity. Earlier, the cabinet recommended the dissolution of the state assembly, soon after Patel sacked eight ministers, owing allegiance to the Janata Dal faction headed by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda. After the cabinet meeting, Patel told newsmen that the decision to recommend the dissolution of the assembly was "unanimous" and "the house has no business to transact". Earlier, after a meeting with his trusted lieutenants at his residence this morning, Patel recommended the dismissal of eight ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is also the Dal state unit president. A Raj Bhavan communique said Governor Kurshed Alam Khan has accepted Patel's recommendation to dismiss the eight ministers with immediate effect. UNI |
