A special judge trying cases of corruption against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha and some of her cabinet colleagues today adjourned further proceedings in the Tansi land deal case to March 4.

Justice P Anbazhagan gave the direction after the Madras high court stayed till March 1 the framing of charges against the accused, which was earlier slated for February 25.

Besides Jayalalitha, the other accused in the case are her close aide Sasikala Natarajan, former minister Mohammed Asif, then Tansi managing director T R Srinivasan and then Deputy Collector of Stamps R Nagarajan and former Indian Administrative Services official Karpura Sundara Pandian.

The judge also exempted Jayalalitha, Sasikala and Asif from appearing in person before him for the day. The other accused were present in the court today.

The case relates to the sale of prime Tansi land at Guindy to Jaya Publications and R R Industries, two firms promoted by Jayalalitha and Sasikala in 1992. The sale allegedly cost the state exchequer Rs 35.1 million.
