Goa governor asks Faleiro to seek confidence vote

E-Mail this report to a friend

Goa Governor J F R Jacob has asked Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro to seek a vote of confidence on Monday, February 8.

The Congress government was installed in Goa on November 26, 1998.

In a letter to Faleiro, the governor has asked him to face the assembly.

The 70-day-old Congress government was reduced to a minority yesterday following the resignation of two ministers -- Minister of Revenue and Urban Development John Manuel Vaz and Minister for Social Welfare Deu Mandrekar.

They sent their resignations to the chief minister's office before joining hands with former chief minister Wilfred de Souza.

Dr de Souza met the governor and staked his claim to form a new coalition government with the support of the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Dr de Souza has claimed the support of 21 members in the 40-member House.

Meanwhile, two Goa BJP leaders, Manohar Parrikar and Shripad Naik, are camping in Delhi to meet their leaders and to apprise the party leadership of the situation in Goa.
