Gwalior to adopt storm orphans

E-Mail this report to a friend

Around 100 orphans of the cyclone-ravaged Jajpur district in Orissa will be taken care of by several societies and officials of Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh.

An amount of Rs 10,000 will be deposited in a joint account of the child and the Jajpur district collector.

The interest accrued from this amount would be utilised towards the expenses of the child, including education.

The monetary assistance would be handed to the child concerned on his becoming an adult. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the collector and the district Red Cross committee.

While the Red Cross Society has decided to assist 10 children, several district officials including the collector have also expressed their desire to be part of this humanitarian task.
