E-Mail this report to a friend

Three Central Reserve Police Force men were killed and 31 others injured when militants ambushed a convoy of CRPF vehicles at a village in Manipur's Bishnupur district last night. Among the injured were 13 civilians who were caught in the crossfire.

The police said the militants attacked the CRPF men, who were on patrol duty on Independence Day. The militants fired with sophisticated weapons from both sides of the Tiddim road, a state highway passing through the Khoirakpam Khunou village.

The injured were admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Science hospital.

Seven underground outfits of the North-Eastern states, including the People's Liberation Army, the United National Liberation Front and the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak gave a call to boycott the Independence Day celebrations.
