Rains over Tamil Nadu, PondicherryThe depression over the south-east Bay of Bengal moved slightly north-west to about 850 km east of Madras Tuesday afternoon. It is likely to intensify further and move in the west-north-westerly direction, a special bulletin issued by the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Madras said. Under its influence, rainfall at many places, with isolated heavy falls, is likely in all districts of north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Squally winds, with speeds between 50-60 kmph is likely along and off north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry from Wednesday morning. Rain or thundershowers are also likely at most places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, at many places in coastal Orissa and coastal Andhra Pradesh, and at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Telengana, Rayalseema and interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country. Rain or thundershowers occurred at a few places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Orissa and Tamil Nadu, and at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema and Tamil Nadu. They were above normal in parts of Orissa, Bihar plateau, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, north-west Rajasthan, central Maharashtra, Telenganga, Rayalseema and Kerala. They were markedly below normal in Kashmir and normal over the rest of the country. Night temperatures were below normal in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. They were appreciably above normal in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh and interior Karnataka. They were above normal in parts of Orissa, West Bengal, Sikkim, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and Kerala. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh from where data were sparse.
