Puri Shankaracharya hits out at VHPThe Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Adhochchanand, has said a Ram temple should be constructed at Ayodhya "without generating a state of confrontation in the country". Talking to reporters today, he said protection of life and property must be ensured before taking up the construction. Lashing out at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, he said the organisation is indulging in cheap politics in the name of religion. The Ram Janmabhoomi issue is purely religious in nature and should be left to religious leaders, he said. The VHP wants to serve its own ends by taking up the issue, which was why it wants to keep religious leaders out of the affair, the shankaracharya added. UNI
