Naga groups threaten to blockade Manipur from November 1

Three Naga organisations have threatened Manipur with an 'economic blockade' from November 1 if its chief minister, Y Nipamacha Singh, does not hold a proper inquiry into the August 29 firing in the state capital, Imphal.

Five people, four of them Nagas, were killed in the firing and a former speaker of the Nagaland assembly was injured.

The Angami Public Organisation, Chakhesang Public Organisation, and Sumi Hoho, decided at a recent meeting to blockade the state, which borders Nagaland, as well as National Highway 39 if their demands are not met.

The signatories to the ultimatum, Sovenyi, V Zao, and P Inaho, said they were disappointed with the unresponsive behaviour of the Manipur government to their demands and the institution of a "cover-up" inquiry.

They reminded Singh that he had owned moral responsibility for the action by Manipur police commandos.
