E-Mail this report to a friend

The Election Commission has ordered a repoll tomorrow in 118 polling stations in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Gujarat where electoral malpractices were reported yesterday.

Sixty-eight of these polling stations are in Madhya Pradesh, most of them in Bhind district.

There will be a repoll in 44 booths in 19 assembly constituencies of Rajasthan, four booths in Bihar where by-elections to four assembly seats were held, and two in Bharuch (reserved) Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat.

The decision followed complaints of booths being captured and the poll being rigged.

An election office spokesman in Jaipur said the repoll in Rajasthan would be conducted tomorrow between 0700 and 1700 hours at the same polling booths.

The maximum number of booths, 16, where a repoll has been ordered are in Jaipur district -- one in Jamwa Ramgarh constituency and 15 in Kotputli.

The other constituencies where repoll will be held are: Rajgarh (1), Laxmangarh (2), Mundawar (1), Kumher (2), Nadbai (4), Badi (1), Jhunjhunu (2), Andikui (2), Mahuwa (1), Masuda (1), Bamanwas (1), Niwai (1), Todaraisingh (1), Luni (2), Phalodi (3) and Parbatsar (1).

Meanwhile, the final figure of yesterday's voting in Bharuch was put at 59.11 per cent, as compared to 63.43 per cent in the mid-term parliamentary poll in February this year.

Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer Balwant Singh said a repoll will be held in booth 169 at Tuna and 178 at Rajgarh, both in Jhagadia assembly segment of the constituency.
