In a sensational shoot-out, a gang of killers in a Maruti car gunned down a police officer in the posh Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad while he was returning from his morning walk.

According to police, 50-year-old Peetam Singh, currently posted at the Moradabad-based police training school, was shot with an AK-47 and 9 mm revolvers close to his quarters in the old Kavi Nagar police station premises.

Singh had gone out on his usual morning walk, along with his five-year-old son who had a miraculous escape. His son had gone into the house a few minutes before the incident.

The police has launched a massive manhunt for the white Maruti-borne killers who sped away, leaving Singh in a pool of blood. Dazed locals tried to jot down the Delhi registration number.

Soon after the incident, senior police authorities rushed to the spot but were clueless about the motive behind the murder till late this evening.

The incident let loose a fresh wave of terror in the crime-prone district where recently a businessman was shot dead in front of a cinema hall and a young woman ,working with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, was adducted in sector 23 of Raj Nagar area. However, she was saved from the clutches of the kidnappers when the police gave a hot chase and shot one of them on Meerut road.
