Subject: 'It is in Bihar's interests to invoke Article 356'

Dear Mr Modi

I am a Bihari. I was born and brought up in Bihar and have lived there for about 24 years. I ask you a simple question, please answer honestly. When wasn't there "jungle raj" in Bihar? When was there peace? When was there the rule of law? When did common men feel safe in Bihar? I have lived there long enough and I never felt safe. There was never any peace. Thanks to politicians like you, Bihar has always been a chaotic state. Can you dare to be honest, Mr Modi? Why don't you say: "I see an opportunity to come to power and become a minister, so I want this government to be dismissed."

We all know that the situation is not going to change just by imposing President's rule or having a new chief minister. Be it Karpoori Thakur, Jagannath Mishra, Ram Sunder Das, Bhagwat Jha Azad, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Sushil Modi or any other BJPite, they are no good for Bihar. Most of the politicians are selfish, shameless, corrupt, dishonest opportunists.

Thanks for this nice coverage of a little-known social work project. I would like to mention that this project is sponsored by CRY (Child Relief and You) also. And especially by CRY USA. Please refer to: http://www.us.cry.org/hope/reports.html

CRY USA is an organisation run by volunteers, which generates funds for CRY India-supported projects. It would have been a great morale booster for those volunteers if CRY had been mentioned in the article.

The Indian Army (especially the NDA) is one of the last institutions which has the respect of the Indian public. Depicting this Academy incorrectly is outrageous. Most Hindi film producers hardly do any research when shooting such movies. And the 'great' Mr Bachchan is no exception. I personally can't even imagine Ajay Devgan in the role of an NDA cadet. Any wrong portrayal of such prestigious academies can seriously affect the decisions of valuable Indian youth who want to join them.

So kudos to whoever has put an end to this rubbish.

Subject: Gilinsky and Leventhal's diatribe

Their charge is related to the old '74 experiment. Ramanna's statements were related to the debate about ambiguity of the PNE and were available for sometime. It is important to see the context. If the non-nuclear lobby had not been so vocal in questioning the credibility of the '74 event, there would not have been the impetus to do the tests. By writing now, after the May incidents -- the experts's motives need to be examined.

It is another fishing expedition to make India reveal its methods or depict India in bad light. While charging India with violating agreements, they should also recall the US commitment to supply fuel to Tarapur. Being experts, it's time they see the ground realities in Asia and advise India in a meaningful manner. Preaching does not help and is unbecoming. India has not broken any treaty obligations in its quest for security. Also remember the NPT rewards rogue states which carry out test explosions even though they are not necessary, as was proven at Hiroshima. It is important to examine every statement and deal with it on its merits.

It beats me! What is amusing if a patriotic chief minister of a state which is fighting insurgency expresses his determination? Who are these scribes mouths hanging in amusement? Or is it the imagination of a scribe who has churned out a masala report for amusement? When will our journalists grow up?

I can't believe this is happening! That too in Bombay, oops, Mumbai before I get lynched. How long will we have to tolerate such jokers. God save Bombay.

Subject: Interview with Mr Vinod Dham

The interview with Vinod Dham is good. I strongly believe Rediff On The Net will be doing a wonderful service if it can bring interviews with top talented people in all fields (particularly hi-tech industries).

Instead of bringing interviews with politicians, and thereby wasting the net band width, these kind of interviews will help people. I request you to bring more and more technical interviews (at least three per day with eminent people of Indian origin who really played a major role in the technical field), and thereby help the young Indian people to compete with the rest of the world (particularly developed countries).

Overall, this article by Priya Ganapati is good, but it should be kept in mind that there is no direct connection between 'amending the Kennedy Act' (about H1 visas) and nuclear tests by India. So the title may not be appropriate. Even during the Gulf War, US did not close its doors to the Iraqis, who could enter with the appropriate status.

I think, for once, our politicians should come out of their egoistic nature and try to do some good for the country. I am sure Beni Prasad had something to gain from the private company, but then he is least bothered about the people of India.

Subject: TAMIL NADU WALKS TALL

I am a regular visitor to the Rediff site. It gives me great pleasure and helps me know more about the current happenings in India. Your recent article -- 'Tamil Nadu Walks Tall' -- is really great. It is really good to know that Tamil Nadu, particularly Chennai, is attracting investments in various sectors. It helps us know more about the current developments going on in Tamil Nadu.

I would also appreciate if you could publish more details about the proposed software technology park and any multinational venture in Madras.

I would also appreciate if you could arrange a Rediff Chat with the Mayor of Madras -- Mr M K Stalin, who is currently making efforts to keep the city clean.

This is heartening. Bangalore can at least heave a sigh of relief. After systematically plundering, virtually raping Bangalore with the onslaught of migrants, Andhra and Tamil Nadu are industrialising. Hope this prevents largescale migration to Bangalore in the long term. Wishful thinking, I think, though.

Subject: New board to appease chamchas!

Mr Sinha now is creating a Foreign Investment Regulatory Board. We already have a Foreign Investment Promotion Board. Do we really need this? I am not an economist, but I certainly am not in favour of creating more boards -- this only aids corruption (we all know that!). Also some economists are of the view that FIPB itself is not worth having and should be scrapped. I wish politicians use their senses (if they have any), to think of long-term goals than appeasing local industrialists for short-term gains.

I just read the piece on Sunoh, doubtlessly written ages back. I think it sucked. Like every other media comment on this album, it was inadequately researched and insensitively heard (if at all). Sunoh, the world will perhaps realise 10 years later, is the album that heralded the coming of age of Indian pop. And yes, that Egypt video did take the attention away from the music, a real pity. There are incidentally at least 3-4 songs that are superior to O Sanam, which unfortunately is the only track these so-called-critics kept harping about. Sad.

I don't know whether Rediff is a public company or not, if it is, one should buy its stock today!!!!

Subject: For kin and country

Zore is a movie which has unveiled the faces of people like godmen, ministers and police who fool people by terrorising them. In this movie, the last scene brings more faith in the law where Sunny Deol argues for the country that if these things are not stopped, a day will come when the map of India will vanish from the atlas.

This is quite true, if people do not awake and do not get out of the shadow of politicians, godmen and other anti-social elements. People need to think independently, fight corruption and other ills plaguing the society. Otherwise, the country will not be able to survive.
