Former Indian hockey captain joins BJP

Former Indian hockey captain Ajit Pal Singh has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Singh, who has been honoured with the Padma Shri and Arjuna Awards, has captained the Indian team thrice. The team scored a World Cup triumph in 1975. He led the team in the 1974 Asian Games as well as in the 1976 Olympics.

Other illustrious sportsmen who are already with the BJP include crack marksman Jaspal Rana, cricketers Mohinder Amarnath, Kirti Azad and Chetan Chauhan and former hockey star Aslam Sher Khan, who was a member of the 1975 World Cup winning side.
