UDP announces third list of candidates

The Meghalaya United Democratic Party on Wednesday nominated Professor G G Swell for the prestigious Shillong Lok Sabha seat, party general secretary H A D Sawian said.

Professor Swell won the seat in 1996 as a common candidate of various regional parties. He defeated Congress nominee D D Lapang by more than 79,000 votes.

Besides Professor Swell, the UDP has announced seven more candidates for the 60-member Meghalaya legislative assembly. This is its third list.
