BJD, BJP finalise seat-sharing in Orissa

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a seat-sharing alliance with the Biju Janata Dal in Orissa.

The BJP will contest nine of the 21 Lok Sabha seats from the state. The BJD will fight the remaining 12 seats.

BJP president Lal Kishinchand Advani announced this to the media in the presence of BJD chief Navin Patnaik and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

While the BJP will put up its candidates from Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Nowrangpur (all reserved for scheduled tribes), Deogarh, Kalahandi, Berhampur, Balasore and Golangir, the BJD will fight from Jajpur, Phulbani, Bhadrak (all scheduled castes), Korapur (ST), Puri, Aska, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Jagarsinghpur.

The two partners also share one seat each for the two assembly by-elections. The BJP will put up a candidate for the Deograh assembly seat and the BJD for Brajranjnagar.
