Kalmadi to start campaign on Sunday

Even as the Congress struggles to announce its candidate for the prestigious Pune constituency, former railway minister Suresh Kalmadi, who quit the party recently, is all set to kick off his campaign on Sunday from the historic Shanwarwada.

Kalmadi's campaign is likely to get an early boost as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdulla would address a rally in Pune, the first being organised by the high profile former Congress MP.

The rally, which will formally launch his recently-formed Pune Vikas Agadhi party, would be a show of strength for Kalmadi.

The former minister had become a major force to reckon with in in the Pune Municipal Corporation. He effected a vertical split among the Congress corporators recently.

Kalmadi -- who won the last Lok Sabha election on the promise of developing Pune city and later secured two-thirds majority in the PMC -- will present the developmental plan of his party at the rally.
