Bhawani Singh was the Independent MP from here in the first election, before the constituency passed on to the Swatantra Party and Congress hands. In 1984 Buta Singh was elected from here, and in 1989 the BJP's Kailash Meghwal trounced him. Singh took back the seat in 1991, and in 1996 his party's Parsa Ram Meghwal defeated the BJP's Gene Ram by less than 6,000 votes.
