The constituency that returned the finance minister in the 13-day BJP Cabinet, Jaswant Singh in 1991 and 1996. Till 1989, this seat had voted non-Congress only twice, the Jan Sangh in 1971 and the BLD in the next round in 1977. From 1991 this has remained with the BJP, and Singh even increased his vote tally from 49 % to 52.30 % in 1996.
