The Jan Sangh's Ramchandra Bade first won this constituency in 1962, lost the next round, and won it again in 1971. In 1977, the seat was contested by the BLD's Rameshwar Patidar and won. He lost the next two rounds to the Congress's S C Yadav, and finally won the seat for the BJP in 1989. Since then, he has held on to it, defeating the Congress by 45,000 votes in 1996.
