A Congress citadel, with a break in 1977. The losing Congress candidate then, Mahajan Jadhav, went on to win the seat in the next three elections. In 1991, the BJP first won from here, with G S Sarode winning 49.6 % of the vote. He repeated his rout of Congressman M J Tukaram, and increased his tally to 52.99 % in 1996.
