By winning 143, 718 votes, Babu Mohan Palli, the NTR TDP candidate, scuttled the TDP nominee who had won the seat in 1991. Combined, the TDP won 57.95 % of the vote. The Congressman had just 39.51 % of the vote. The TDP vote, in fact, went up since 1991 when it won 53.2 %. A TDP-Congress-TDP-Congress pattern is evident here.
