'I want stability, and elections only once in five years'

S Vishwasam, farmer, 50 years, Panickanadarkudieruppu, Tamil Nadu

S Vishwasam I studied up to the seventh standard. That qualification was enough for me to join my uncle's cloth stop. Besides, I used to look after our fields. Since the cloth shop does not exist any more, I am a full-time farmer.

In 1967, I voted for the first time. My choice was G N Edmund of the DMK and he won by over 10,000 votes. He didn't do anything for us. He never came back here. He stayed in his house in Palayamkottai.

In 1972, I voted for the Congress but they lost.

In the Lok Sabha election, I always voted for K T Kosalram of the Congress. He always won. He used to do a lot for the constituency. He was the cause of the Manimuthar dam.

After K T Kosalram's death, I voted for Dhanuskodi Adithan. He is in the TMC now. He does small favours. Nothing great. His name got spoilt in the drought last year. This time I'll vote for the Congress. Only they can provide a stable government.

This is to oppose Chandrababu Naidu's move to make a Communist the prime minister. Communism is dead even in Russia.

I'll vote for the Congress even without Sonia. Vajpayee will not be able to run a stable government. Destroying the Babri Masjid was wrong.

In 1977, when the Janata wave was on, I voted for the Congress. But the MLA lost. So I voted for the TMC in the MP election. In the future, I'll vote for only the Congress in both the MLA and MP elections. I want stability, and elections only once in five years.

As told to A Ganesh Nadar
