Muslim leaders are filled with a sense of betrayal

Muslim leaders in Bombay, while reacting to the tabling of the Srikrishna Commission report in the assembly and its consequent rejection by the state government, termed the stance adopted by the state government as "unfair".

Saeed Nori, general secretary of the Raza Academy said no public protest will be held for the same but they would certainly approach the court for acceptance of the report by the government. Voicing the same feelings, Maulana Faiz Ahmed Faiz, secretary of the All India Tablig-e-Sirat, appealed to the community to maintain peace in the metropolis.

Maulana Musana Miyan, president of the Darul Ulom Ashrafia Garib Nawaj, said the state government should accept the Commission report so that the culprits in the riots would be punished.

Farooq Azam, chairman of the Minority Front, said the Front has demanded dissolution of the Sena-BJP government as it favours one section of the community. Those who suffered in the riots should get justice and this government is anti-masses, he accused.

Abu Asim Azmi, president of the Samajwadi Party's Bombay unit, said since the government has rejected the report, it clearly shows that Shiv Sena and BJP workers were involved in the riots. The SP will approach the court and the National Human Rights Commission regarding the same.

Majeed Memon, senior criminal lawyer, expressed the view that the Maharashtra government may have the power not to implement or act upon the Commission's recommendations, but the findings of the report are very sensitive and related to an unprecedented phase the metropolis went through during December 1992-January 1993.
