Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 23:20:40 +0200 Thank you very much for providing us with the important information about the hunger strikers in such details. I visited the hunger strikers four days ago -- just before returning to Denmark. Your service shows the importance of the net as a carrier of information that does not find its way in such detail to the Danish media.

Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 12:00:43 -0500 (CDT) Reservations are complete nonsense. There is no logic behind saying that a socially backward is in any way underprivileged, and so must receive benefits. In what way is the President of India underprivileged? We will never know what were the motivations that Ambedkar had when he put this evil of inequality in the Constitution, but we are certain that today it just serves the purpose of vote bank politics and a source of illegal income for certificate providers. The saddest part is that people who have these certificates don't feel any shame. These are shameless suckers afraid to face the open competition. Anand Bernard
Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 12:58:46 -0400 >>Q. But you are said to be behind every move of Jayalalitha that embarrasses the BJP and the Vajpayee government? >>Ans. She is an intelligent woman, and she knows what is best for her party. Not for the country? Is there any political person who thinks about the country?
Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 12:45:21 -0500 Who is Subramanian Swamy? What is the Janata Party?
Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 14:05:22 -0500 I can't understand why you carry interviews with this man so often. It is a waste of our time to read it. I think it is time to start ignoring him. Prasanna Krishnan
Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 17:57:40 -0400 Reading your article on the interview with Mr S Swamy, one thing that comes to my mind is the resemblance of "Shakuni Mama" in Mahabharata and Mr S Swamy's stand on AIADMK politics. When Mr S Swamy was asking the 'intelligent' Jayalalitha for a portfolio in the BJP government, where was his so idealistic moral hanging? A man, who has a friendship with Chandra Swami is claiming to be morally upright in his stance towards politics? What rubbish is he talking and how can you even interview such a person who has no commitment toward his nation or its identity. Sanjay Achharya
Date sent: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 13:05:27 +0200 I would like to ask Dr Subramanian Swamy if Advani, Joshi, Uma Bharti must resign; then the BJP government must also morally go. It took the support of the AIADMK whose party leader itself had been convicted by the high court in two cases and charge sheeted in several other cases.

If there is nothing nice you can do for India then please sit quietly. You biting the very hand that has fed you. Why do you not use your education to help the less educated and make a better India than a bitter India?
Date sent: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 12:59:08 -0500 The article sucked because Varsha Bhosle is just not used to praising anyone. It must have been a U-turn for her suddenly to lionise someone, especially after the acerbic articles she has been writing all along. A very inappropriate choice to write about someone as great as Tendulkar. But can mere words describe Tendulkar's greatness?
Date sent: Sun, 26 Apr 1998 19:55:38 -0400 Congratulations, now you are a jack of all trades and master of none. Your article is fit to be published in any Marathi newspaper, for God's sake our second language wasn't Marathi, so please cut off your "Aplya," "Tendlya," "Kaay ahe to" and the like. I'm also proud of Tendulkar not because he is Marathi but because he is an Indian.

Date sent: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 13:10:55 +0530 I think this hullabaloo about "eradicating" English from Karnataka is the most stupid decision taken. Why not promote your language without forcing it down the throats of the commoner? "Promote it with savvy." No doubt the language is losing its foothold in its place of birth, but that does not mean that you should enforce it. Every change should be gradual and peaceful. This will ultimately win people's heart. If it is enforced, there will be more distaste towards this language. I feel the language should be promoted without sidelining other international languages -- which is the platform for us to communicate with the world. It would be foolish because when it comes down to the economy, trade and travel, you damn well can't ignore the most loved language -- ENGLISH. Let us promote our national language Hindi rather. This would make more sense. Zohra
Date sent: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 12:40:02 +0900 Great. Who is this scholar springing to life overnight? Where was he when the so-called Muslim leaders urged their community to vote "against" the BJP because it is their enemy? Today, knowing the fact that the BJP is in government, he simply says that no party is their enemy. And, yes, why would he like the Common Civil Code? Why would they like to see the poor Muslim women being empowered ending the male domination in their religion? Why would they like to see their uneducated millions to be at par with the rest of the country? NO WAY. If they allow all this, who the hell is going to turn to these "scholars" who generally are found at the time of elections to issue "decrees" and "directives?" The biggest problem of the Muslims in India is that they have a real lousy set of leaders -- no one possibly worse than Syed Shahabuddin; the millionaire who talks about Muslims from his AC room. And, if the Muslims are educated properly, all these leaders would bite the dust -- they will lose their significance. Now, how can they allow such things to happen? So, no civil law, no progressive reforms -- NOTHING whatsoever. They want to keep the whole community underdeveloped for the sake of their personal benefits. Coming to respecting the Muslims -- no other country in the world is better than India in this matter. Instead of harping on stupid issues, I want to know what trouble do they have in the country today? Their problems are created by themselves and their selling out to selfish political parties like the Congress and SJP or Janata Dal. They are the problem for themselves. Can they deny what happened in the Shah Bano case? To hell with their lousy pronouncements about "warnings" to the country. Now, if they want to live like a suppressed sections -- which they call themselves quite fondly -- let them live like that for eternity. NO ONE IN INDIA EVER SUPPRESSED THEM EXCEPT THEIR OWN LEADERS. The choice is theirs. Uday
Date sent: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 15:25:48 PDT I hope Rushdie comes to his senses and recalls the book, otherwise I don't know what will happen. For all those BIASED free speech lovers, I just have one question, how come GREAT BRITAIN (the champion of free speech) has banned a book on the life of Diana and the Royals? This clearly shows their hypocrisy. If they really care for free speech then don't ban any book, please don't pick and choose. Finally, all those Hindu free speech lovers, who opposed the BAN of the book in India, how come you raised hell when M F Husain painted some pictures of a Hindu goddess in a revealing dress? If this hurts you, then definitely you should understand Rushdie's book (a clear blasphemy) hurts the feelings of Muslims. I am in no way supporting M F Husain here. I think everybody should respect each other's feelings regarding RELIGION. This is basic human character. Chaman
Date sent: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 17:12:51 EDT Does Jayalalitha really understand the fact that India today is one of the poorest countries in the world? As long as we people read, write and spend our time on such characters as Jayalalitha, India has no future. Krishna
Date sent: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 15:33:00 -0300 NOW it is CHINA? Then there are Paki infiltrators? Why doesn't the government do something? I am actually worried about Indian borders. China has already taken a huge tract of land from us in 1962, the ISI has killed hundreds in Kashmir, Coimbatore and the Far East -- Arunachal Pradesh has presence of Chinese troops. Why didn't you report about this before? And now the Andamans? These are all Indian territories -- Andamans, Assam, AP, Kashmir, Coimbatore For God's sake do something.
Date sent: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 13:09:18 -0700 (PDT) After reading this ongoing farce -- BJP versus Amma Jaya, it appears Amma and is suffering from "Drain Brain" and Vajpayee from "Brain Drain." Meanwhile the proposal from Ramakrishna Hegde for yet another election is a sure shot way of "Drain the Exchequer." Rao Yerramilli
