Nadeem's application on tapped phone calls rejected

Principal Sessions Judge A S Aguiar today rejected the application moved by music director Nadeem Akhtar Saifee, prime accused in the sensational Gulshan Kumar murder case, claiming release of his tapped calls for his lawyers' perusal.

Rejecting the application, the judge observed that Nadeem has not surrendered before the police and he does not have any locus standi for claiming the documents. He said he should have moved the application before the court in Britain, where his extradition proceedings are going on.

Gulshan Kumar was shot dead near a temple in the western suburbs of Bombay last August. The police linked Nadeem, of Nadeem-Shravan fame, with the murder on obtaining the tape of Nadeem's residence telephone and also his mobile phone. The phone calls were traced to Dubai-based ganglord Abu Salem and it contained alleged conversation between the two in connection with the murder plot.

In the application presented to Judge Aguiar, Nadeem has prayed for the release of his tapped calls tape from the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Max Touch company for his lawyers's perusal. The judge in return has summoned the city police commissioner to file a reply to this application by tomorrow. Nadeem is still absconding and has taken refuge in London. The police has already filed his extradition papers in London.
