Shivani case: R K Sharma suspended by Haryana government

Senior Indian Police Service officer Ravi Kant Sharma, prime suspect in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, was on Friday suspended from service by the Haryana government for being absent from office since August 12, when he was to join after the expiry of his 10 days leave, official sources said.

They added a formal charge sheet would be sent to him soon.

The IPS officer had proceeded on leave after the arrest of Shri Bhagwan, one of the accused, by the Delhi police.

Sharma has remained elusive since August three. He was removed from his post of Inspector General of Police (Prisons) on August 14 when the government downgraded the post and appointed DIG of Haryana Armed Police Laik Ram to the post.

The Delhi police have unsuccessfully raided several places in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Hardwar in Uttaranchal to nab the fugitive officer, whose bail application was rejected by a court at Panchkula and another at Delhi. His third bail plea is to be taken by the Delhi high court on Monday.

They have also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone providing information leading to Sharma's arrest.

Sharma's wife, Madhu, and two daughters Pragati and Komal have also been quizzed by police officials.

On August 15, Madhu alleged that Union Communications Minister Pramod Mahajan was responsible for the killing, a charge stoutly denied by the minister.
