Former Kerala ministers file papers

Former Kerala ministers K R Gowri and K P Vishwanathan and Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president C Padmanabhan were among the notables who filed their nominations for the May 10 assembly polls in Kerala on Tuesday.

Gowri filed her papers from Aroor, Vishwanath from Kodakara and Padmanabhan from Manjeswaram taking the total number of candidates in fray at this stage in the state to 22.

In Tamil Nadu, filing of nominations in all the 234 assembly constituencies was dull with only a few candidates entering the fray.

All India Anna DMK chief J Jayalalitha, who filed her nominations from Krishnagiri assembly constituency on Monday, is likely to file her papers from Andipatti constituency in Theni district on Wednesday.

Sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Velayuthan filed his papers from Padmanabhapuram constituency.

Six Janata Dal (Secular) candidate were among eight aspirants who filed their papers in Coimbatore district.

The last date for filing of papers is April 23. Scrutiny of papers will be done the next day.

Polling will be held for 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, 294 seats in West Bengal, 140 in Kerala, 126 in Assam (126) and 30 in Pondicherry on May 10.

By-elections to three Lok Sabha seats of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Midnapore in West Bengal would also be held simultaneously.

The votes will be counted on May 13.
