We are living in an age when desi celebrities mark their calendars for global appearances several times in a year.

The year 2012 was no exception.

We spotted several Bollywood divas making glamorous appearances at various global events through the year. Here's looking at the ones that truly stood out.

Kalki Koechlin

Here's the thing about this talented actress.

She's French by birth but wears her Indianness on her sleeves. Brought up in the picturesque Pondicherry, Kalki went for a South Indian style ceremony for her wedding to beau Anurag Kashyap last year.

So it's heartening to see her addressed as a 'Bollywood actress' in foreign press.

Kalki arrived in an Amit Aggarwal gown to the Tribute To Chinese Director Zhang Yimou during the 12th International Marrakech Film Festival in December.

Priyanka Chopra

Give it up for Priyanka Chopra, who chose an Indian outfit for her apperance at the Marrakech FIlm Festival.

The actress dazzled in a Manish Malhotra lehenga as she attended the screening of her film Barfi!.

Ileana D'Cruz

Looks like South Indian actress Ileana D'Cruz, who made her Bollywood debut with Barfi! this year, isn't really a rookie when it comes to red carpet fashion.

She pulled off a Tarun Tahiliani sari like a veteran at the film's Marrakech screening.

Sridevi

To put it mildly, Sridevi took our breath away with this absolutely Indian and spectacular appearance at the world premiere of her comeback film English Vinglish at Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The veteran actress and her stunning Sabyasachi sari were a match made in high fashion heaven.

Shriya Saran

Midnight's Children actress Shriya Saran could be Bollywood's resident how-to girl when it comes to balancing demure and sexy with an outfit.

Her hot pink Manish Malhotra lehenga that she wore for the film's premiere in Toronto was pure awesomeness.

Shahana Goswami

Saran's Midnight's Children costar Shahana Goswami was a vision in red at the TIFF premiere of the film in an eye popping Sabyasachi lehenga.

A memorable reminder of the designer's versatality.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's much awaited Cannes appearance was met with a lot of criticism.

But the actress was unfazed and owned the red carpet with her confidence in an ornate Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla chikan sari.

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat wore a bizarre yet eye-catching hooded Ali Mahdavi outfit to Cannes this year. Her wardrobe seemed to be dominated by pastel shades.

Madhuri Dixit

With a smile like that, Madhuri Dixit need not try too hard to stand out.

But her canary coloured sari at the unveiling of her wax statue was eye-popping to say the least.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor gave front row fashionistas at Roberto Cavalli's Fall/Winter 2012-13 show a stiff competition in a goth inspired look in Milan, the mecca of fashion.

Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto was a goddess in a gold Ralph Lauren gown as she attended the opening ceremony of Dubai Film Festival earlier this month.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan took her desi style to Melbourne as she delivered the match ball to the umpires before the round seven AFL match between the Richmond Tigers and the Sydney Swans in May this year.
