Yash Chopra's Best Soundtracks

Yash Chopra passed away on October 21, 2012 and left us beautiful music to remember him by, notes Subhash K Jha.

Dhool Ka Phool (1959)
Yash Chopra had a terrific sense of music. His first directorial featured music by N Dutta and lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi with whom he remained associated through much of his early career.
In Dhool Ka Phool, Mohammad Rafi sang the memorable Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalmaan Banega.

Waqt (1965)
Waqt contained wonderful songs composed by Ravi, including Manna Dey's classic Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen and Asha Bhosle's Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu.

Daag (1976)
Composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal and Sahir Ludhianvi collaborated for Yash Chopra's first film outside elder brother B R Chopra's studio.
Kishore Kumar's Mere Dil Main Aaj Kya Hai and Lata Mangeshkar's Jab Bhi Jee Chahe stand out.

Joshila (1973)
With Sahir writing the poetry, R D Burman scored Kishore Kumar's Kiska Rasta Dekhe and Lata Mangeshkar's Mehfil Mein Chupane Pade and Asha Bhosle's Kaanp Rahi Main and Sona Roopa Lai Je Re.

Kabhi Kabhie (1975)
Khayyam finally attained the success he deserved after 15 years of struggle. Poetic songs like Main Pal Do Pal and Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein were for Amitabh Bachchan and Raakhee and the youthful numbers Tera Phoolon Jaisa Rang and Tere Chehre Se were for Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

Silsila (1981)
After working with Sahir for many years, Yash Chopra switched to Javed Akhtar for the poetic lyrics of Neela Aasman So Gaya, Dekha Ek Khawab and Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum.

Chandni (1989)
Yash Chopra introduced master flautist Hari Prasad Chaurasia and santoor icon Shiv Kumar as a composing duo.
Shiv-Hari composed blockbuster music for Yash Chopra's Silsila, Parampara, Chandni, Darr and Faasle.

Chandni (1989)
Lata Mangeshkar had decided to quit singing when Chandni -- and the song Mere Haathon Mein -- came her way and made her stay.

Faasle (1985)
Featured romantic nuggets like Lata Mangeshkar-Kishore Kumar's Hum Chup Hain, Janam Janam Mere Sanam, Inn Aankhon Ke Zeenon Se and Chandni Tu Hai Kahan.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
Yash Chopra's swan song brought him together with A R Rahman and Gulzar for the first time.
