Bollywood's Biggest Hits of 2011

According to a report in Mumbai tabloid Mid-Day, Bodyguard has emerged as the highest grossing film of 2011.

The Salman Khan-Kareena Kapoor movie earned the distinction of having the highest opening at the box office too.

Let's have a look at the other big hits of 2011.

2. Singham

Ajay Devgn's cop act in Singham may have been fashioned after Salman Khan tasted unprecedented success with Dabangg last year but that didn't dampen the moviegoers' excitement for heroic thanedars.

The Rohit Shetty-directed did exceptionally well at the box office, coming in at number two.

3. The Dirty Picture

Vidya Balan turned in a spectacular performance as Silk in Milan Luthria's The Dirty Picture.

Made on a modest budget, the film did some great business at the box office.

4. Ready

It was clearly Salman Khan's year, as he got yet another hit in the form of Ready.

Released in June, the film recieved some scathing reviews for it's mediocre content but Sallu fans seemed to love it anyway.

5. Murder 2

Sitting pretty high on the list is Mahesh Bhatt's sequel to the super successful film, Murder.

Jacqueline Fernandez replaced Mallika Sherawat in the sequel and the franchise lost some of its steam but still managed to draw in crowds.

6. Delhi Belly

Aamir Khan's production house came up with a surprise in Delhi Belly.

Starring Imran Khan, the adult comedy became a cult amongst youngsters due to its unusual story line coupled with witty dialogues and cuss words.

7. Tanu Weds Manu

Buoyed by critical acclaim, the Madhavan-Kangna pairing surprised everyone. It conjured the small-time feel excellently with a fabulous soundtrack one has seen in a long time.

The film was a winner at the box office too.

8. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zoya Akhtar's fun-filled road movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara made the Tomatina festival so popular in India that it was even celebrated here!

Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin turned in some good performances, and looked gorgeous against the beautiful Spanish skies.

9. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Another film banking on North Indian weddings for success, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan was a hit, thanks to a rather different performance by Katrina Kaif.

Imran Khan and Ali Zafar lent good support and the Yash Raj film was smartly packaged with peppy music and good cinematography.

10. Yamla Pagla Deewana

The three Deols -- Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby -- took the box office by storm with comedy caper Yamla Pagla Deewana.

The chemistry among the father and sons was the highlight of the film. It got mixed reviews but managed to be one of the first hits of the year.
