Two well-known comedians of Kannada cinema--Sharan and Tabla Nani--have come together in the movie Rambo. Sharan is also the producer of the film, which has a big star cast of comedians.

Sharan, who is actress Shruthi's elder brother, says the film is a situational comedy and is based on a story by M S Srinath from Tamil cinema, who is the film's director. "I stumbled upon this story after meeting Srinath. I never thought that I would get a story that would warrant producing a film," says Sharan.

Though Sharan shares the frames with Tabla Nani in what could be described as an awesome twosome, Sharan quips, "I am still the hero of the movie."

Atlanta Nagendra, co-producer of the film, who earlier produced another Kannada film, Joke Falls (starring Ramesh Aravind), said the film is the story of a car salesman (played by Sharan) who doesn't work in a showroom but unscrupulously forces owners to sell their vehicles. He never owns a car himself but he lands in trouble over the car deals.

"People will see Sharan in a new avatar in the movie. He has not only performed emotional scenes but has also danced quite well besides playing the regular comedian role," Nagendra said.

The producer said the film Rambo has tried to come out of the conventional narrative and that no artiste in the movie enjoys an introduction scene. Nagendra said this is the first comedy film to use the DI (digital intermediary) format throughout the movie.

"There is a surprise element in the movie that explains about Rambo. People will have to watch the movie to know who Rambo is and why I have titled the movie thus."

The film stars comedians Umesh, Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila, Kurigalu Pratap, Chandrakala and Sanket Kashi. While Tabla Nani plays actress Umashri's brother in the movie, Shruthi who is known as the sob-queen for her emotional roles, plays a serious role but not one that is a tear-jerker. Venkatesh Prasad plays a villain with a comic element.

Says Umashri of her role, "I play a mother from a middle-class family. She portrays love, anger and concern towards her son in a funny way."

The female lead is Madhuri who won the Miss Karnataka crown. She plays a 'homely' girl in the movie.

Cinematographer S Krishna of Mungaaru Male fame has shot the movie in 47 locations using a Super 35 camera.

The film is co-directed by actor Tarun Sudhir, son of the later actor Sudhir. Arjun Janya has scored the music. A thanksgiving song has been picturised on the technicians who have worked in the movie.
