For the first time, Trivikram Srinivas directs Allu Arjun in Julayi. The film releases on Thursday, August 9, in about 1500 screens across the southern states in Telugu and Malayalam (dubbed in Malayalam as Gajapokkiri).

Arjun has a good fan base in Kerala and his films are received well there. Produced by K Radhakrishna and presented by D V Danayya, Julayi stars Ileana D' Cruz in the lead role opposite Allu Arjun.

Julayi seems to be keenly awaited as Trivikram's last film, Mahesh Khaleja, was disappointing.

Arjun plays a guy who doesn't take life seriously. He says the film is an "action entertainer, a fun film."

Arjun was keen to work with Trivikram as he "extracts good performances from actors and is a great dialogue writer. You can see a new factor in the film. I knew he would extract a new angle from me."

Arjun thinks he looks different in the film too as Trivikram has ensured that he doesn't have the usual expressions.

Ileana is back after a short break in Telugu films. This is her second film with Trivikram, the first one being Jalsa. Both Arjun and she seemed to have had a smooth time shooting Julayi together. "It was nice working with her," says Arjun.

Rajendra Prasad, Sonu Sood, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Tanikella Bharani, M S Narayana, Rao, Dhramavarapu Subrahmanyam, and Brahmaji Ramesh are others in the cast.

Devisriprasad who is riding on a wave of success after the super hit Gabbar Singh, scores the music for Julayi.

He had also composed for Trivikram's Jalsa, starring Pawan Kalyan, a few years ago. He has worked on three films of Arjun before this – Arya, Bunny, and Arya 2, which have fared well.

The film has been shot in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and some foreign locales including Bangkok. "We enjoyed the process of filmmaking. On the sets, Rajendra Prasad, Brahmanandam, Subrahmanyam, and M S Narayana provided the humour. We didn't really realise the time at all while shooting the film," said Trivikram.
