After a very discreet shooting schedule in India that involved pretend-shooting whenever government officials paid the film sets a visit, the film was only shown to the authorities in its entirety upon its completion and was promptly banned.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director Zoya Akhtar (right), who was also one of the assistant directors on the film, was roped in for a blink-and-you-miss appearance as one of Rekha's character's pupils in the film.
