Sunny Deol is not associated with pulsating tunes, the way his father Dharmendra and brother Bobby are. But Sunny has some chartbusters to his credit too.
Subhash K Jha lists the top 7.
Jab Hum Jawan Honge from Betaab
In his debut film, Sunny had R D Burman deliver a solid dhai kilo ka chartbuster.
"Jab Hum Jawan Honge was a hit beyond any other song in my movies," recalls Sunny.
Sohni Meri Sohni from Sohni Mahiwal
Anu Malik gave the music for Sunny's second film, Sohni Mahiwal.
It was a flop but some songs, especially the duet Sohni Meri Sohni by Anwar and Asha Bhosle had a good shelf life.
Aur Kya Ahede Wafa from Sunny
This Raj Khosla flop had Amrita Singh getting its best song (Lataji's Jaane Kya Baat Hai).
Sunny got this beautiful ghazal rendered feelingly by Suresh Wadkar.
R D Burman again, and what a composition!
Oh Meri Jaan from Manzil Manzil
Another flop, this time from the house of Nasir Hussain, who was known for his musical blockbusters.
In this, Shailendra Singh belted out some lovely R D Burman tracks, including Oh Meri Jaan.
Mamaiya Kero Mama from Arjun
Out of Sunny's 1st 6 films, 5 had music by R D Burman.
This youth anthem, sung by Shailendra Singh, attained popularity although the film sank.
"This song," Shailendra Singh says, "was one of my big successes after Bobby."
Us Din Mujhko Bhool Na Jana from Samundar
Another RD Burman-Deol combination, another flop.
'I am known for my songs for Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) but I did equally good work with Sunny,' RD once told Subhash K Jha.
Din Pyar Ke Aayenge from Savere Wali Gaadi
Another flop from Sunny's early career features one of Lataji's choicest solos from the 1980s.
Technically, it wasn't Sunny's song; it was co-star Poonam Dhillon's song. But Sunny gave bashful glances in this tribute to the softer side of the macho man.
