Silsila yeh pyaar ka -- Devdas

We shot Silsila yeh pyaar ka for 17 nights because the setup was very big. Everything had to be rehearsed, as there was a lot of coordination with the dancers. It was one of the toughest songs.

We had our moments of frustrations and joy. The freak accident -- where the two crew members were killed -- happened during this song. I was ready for the shot and I had just called for the take when it happened. We had to stop shooting for two days after that.

I had called some classical dancers from Delhi and they kept fainting because of stress. We were emotionally drained after that song.

The dance had a different style. It was more contemporary ballet than filmi. My classical background really helped.

Ash had been very patient. Sanjay, Ash and I had already built a rapport. We knew what the film would do to our careers.

Besides this song, I also choreographed Bairi piya and Hamesha tumko chaha.

I did not choreograph Madhuri in Devdas. I had once shot a promo with her, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan for Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam. The film had been in the making for five years and the promo helped push the film. We shot it in two days. I remember she would constantly stare at me during the shoot. Then, we got talking and exchanged our classical dance lingo!

I was to shoot her introduction scene in Devdas. There was to be a theme on Chandramukhi with the moon but it never happened because of the time factor.

The fact that Pandit Birju Maharaj had also choreographed a number in Devdas did not put any added pressure on me. He had come to my sets once. He even compleminted me. He knew I was Hiralalji’s granddaughter. I took his blessings then
