Raju Shrivastav
Age: 42 years

I had refused Star One thrice, as I did not want to participate. I have already done so much work, have judged so many functions that I did not want to ruin my reputation. But the director of the show, Pankaj Saraswat, would constantly call me and ask me to enroll. They wanted strong participants.

My friends were very upset when they learnt that I was participating in the show. They said mein apna kachra karoonga (I would make a fool of myself). My family did not want me to participate either.

I thought I would just visit the sets. They then insisted that I do just one episode. I did not even realise when I was sucked into this.

My scripts are mostly my daily experiences in life. I do not need to prepare at all. I get most of my ideas from the newspapers.

I have done many television serials. I have 20 audio cassettes of my jokes. Before, I would also dub for Asrani, Jeetendra and Anil Kapoor. I have worked in films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Baazigar and Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. I have done about 3,000 live shows. Shekar Suman and I have worked together in Reporter and Dekh Bhai Dekh.

I came to Mumbai from Kanpur in 1982. I had to really struggle for two years. I did small shows in orchestras initially.

I have two children.
