Do Audiences like Bollywood's SIBLING LOVE?

Think of a Bollywood movie portraying sibling love, and you are instantly reminded of Hare Rama, Hare Krishna; Majboor; Masoom.

In recent times, siblings have given movies a whole new dimension. And audiences seem to love it!

Joginder Tuteja looks at how well recent films highlighting sibling love have done at the box office.


Dil Dhadakne Do
Box office collection: Rs 78 crore

Dil Dhadakne Do featured Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh as siblings.

It was an interesting casting choice by Zoya Akhtar as Priyanka and Ranvir were seen as a couple in Gunday.

In fact, a few months after DDD released, they were seen as husband and wife in Bajirao Mastani.


Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
Box office collection: Rs 210 crore

At the core, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was about the conflict between a brother and sister, played by Salman Khan and Swara Bhaskar respectively.

The Sooraj Barjatya drama was mounted on a lavish scale, even as another sibling tussle played out parallelly between Salman and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Of course, all's well that ends well.


Race 3
Box office collection: Rs 169 crore

As is expected from the Race franchise, everyone was double crossing everyone in its third installment.

Saqib Salim and Daisy Shah played twins as Salman stepped as their step brother.

Action ruled rather than emotions.


Box office collection: Rs 128 crore

How far can a woman go to get justice for her brother?

That was probably the character brief for Esha Gupta who played the sister of Arjan Bajwa, who gets killed by Akshay Kumar.

Ileana D'Cruz played Akshay's wife who gets into an affair with Bajwa.

Esha had a good part to play as she fought hard to get her brother justice.


Jai Ho
Box office collection: Rs 115 crore

Salman and Tabu played siblings in Jai Ho, a film directed by Salman's sibling Sohail Khan.

Tabu played Salman's sister in Bharat as well.


Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Box office collection: Rs 109 crore

Farhan Akhtar and Divya Dutta shared an emotional sibling bond in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Divya played the elder sister who took care of her brother in the refugee camp post Partition.

Though it was predominantly a sports drama, Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra brought out Milkha Singh's family life too.


Bol Bachchan
Box office collection: Rs 103 crore

An official remake of Gol Maal, Bol Bachchan saw Ajay Devgn and Prachi Desai in the parts made famous by Utpal Dutt and Bindiya Goswami in the original.

Abhishek Bachchan stepped into Amol Palekar's shoes and unleashed the madness in this Rohit Shetty film.

Result? A box office winner.


Race 2
Box office collection: Rs 100.45 crore

Race has always been a family thriller and while the first installment had two brothers (Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna) taking on each other, Race 2 had the Desi Boyz couple John Abraham and Deepika Padukone play brother and sister.

Twists and turns were abundant in this Abbas-Mustan thriller.


Box office collection: Rs 18 crore

No Bollywood sibling film list can be complete without the mention of Josh starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as twins.

Many wondered if Director Mansoor Khan's casting decision would work out, especially since they were not just huge stars at the time but were also getting ready to be seen as a couple in Mohabbatein<./p>

SThe film went ahead as planned. Though the results were not optimal, it was appreciated.


Raksha Bandhan

The next major film with siblings taking centre-stage is set to be Rakshabandhan.

Akshay Kumar plays brother to as many as four girls played by Deepika Khanna, Smrithi Srikanth, Sadia Khateeb and Sahejmeen Kaur.

Shooting for Aanand L Rai's film is on in full swing.

Bhumi Pednekar plays the leading lady.
