Box Office: Welcome 2 Karachi is a flop

Here comes another dud after a brief high at the box office.

Aanand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu Returns struck gold at the box office upon release, and buzz is it's this year's first big hit. But last week's release Welcome 2 Karachi wasn't so fortunate.  

Trade analyst Vinod Mirani gives us the box office verdict for the week.


Welcome 2 Karachi


Cast: Jackky Bhagnani, Arshad Warsi, Lauren Gottlieb.

Director: Ashish R Mohan

What works: Arshad-Jackky's comic timing.

What doesn't: Bad writing, ineffective comedy.

Number of weeks: New

BO verdict: Poor opening.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns


Cast: Kangana Ranaut, R Madhavan, Jimmy Shergill, Swara Bhaskar, Eijaz Khan, Deepak Dobriyal.

Director: Aanand L Rai

What works: Kangana and Madhavan, the film ensures a lot of laughs.

What doesn't: Nothing new in the story.

Number of weeks: 1

BO verdict: Hit.

What works: Good production values and terrific detailing, good music.

What doesn't: Shallow film that loses steam midway, half-baked characters.
