'There is no hero-heroine in Saroja'

What is Saroja's genre?

It is a thriller. It starts in the morning and ends on the morning of the next day. It is about a road trip that goes wrong.

I don't have big stars in my film but what I am saying is different. There is a lot of comedy too in the film. Through Premji, Siva, etc, I have added a lot of humour. But mind you, there is no separate comedy track in my film. My heroes are four ordinary guys who are humourous.

In Chennai 28, many people could identify with the characters. Will they be able to do so with the characters of Saroja?

Definitely. They are as real as you and me. The film is about how these normal guys get into a situation, and come out of it. There is no hero-heroine in Saroja; it is an ensemble cast. There are no dream sequences or duet songs. In Chennai 28, I had a dream sequence but there is nothing like that in Saroja.

I know people expect something different from the Chennai 28 group and we have given a different film. Unless the story is different and you give a new approach, even big films by big stars don’t get appreciated these days.
