Marathi cinema rules the box office!

Though Marathi film producers prefer to keep mum on box office figures, trade analyst and public relations officer Ganesh Gargote said the last six months saw a turnover of Rs 25 crores at the box office for Marathi cinema.

Nashik, Vidharbhaa and Marathwada, which were considered 'dead' centers for Marathi movies, have suddenly started seeing packed houses. Now, taking advantage of the boom, Zee has announced 10 Marathi movies, starting with Kedar Shinde's Galgale Nighale starring Bharat Jadhav. Mahesh Manjrekar, Smita Talwalkar and Srirang Godbole are also busy with new productions for Zee.

So is the trend here to stay? If good content, publicity, promos, slick presentation, non-Maharashtrian viewership and entry of corporates like Zee, Mukta Arts and One More Thought Entertainment continues, this trend might just last long.

With 50-60 movies lined up for release in the next six months, there seems to be no stoping Marathi cinema!
