The long hunt for Kasamh Se's Bani is finally over. Taking over the role made popular by Prachi Desai in Ekta Kapoor's [Images] popular soap, is Gurdeep Kohli [Images].

This also marks a return to acting for the actress, famous for her work in soaps like Sanjeevani and Sindoor. Gurdeep has been keeping a low profile after her wedding. She was last seen as a host for the breakfast show, Good Morning Zindagi, on 9X and a cameo in the afternoon serial Bhabhi.

She talks to Rajul Hegde about playing the popular Bani.

Why do think you have been selected to play Bani?

You must ask Balaji Telefilms [Get Quote] that. I think they appreciated my work in my earlier shows. I am happy to play this role as it is a big comeback for me. I have successfully portrayed strong characters in the past so playing Bani is not a problem.

Gurdeep in a still from SindoorWhat made you take up this role?

The main reason is because the character is not new to me. I have done it before. I plan to give this role my all to make it successful.

Replacing Bani is a challenging task. Will you be able to create your own identity?

I am not a fresh face. I am an established television actor, and have been in this industry for seven years. I don't see any reason why viewers will not accept me as the new Bani.

I know Bani is a popular character. In the beginning, viewers may have a problem in accepting me as Bani. But they will accept me in time.

Are you okay with the generation leap? Are you willing to whiten your hair if you have to?

There are many actors, who are working in such shows but haven't dyed their hair. There is a constant effort to give my character an aged look. But I don't think I will have to dye my hair. Generation leaps are not about greying your hair. Such changes are a part and parcel of every show and they are merely taken to enhance the show's longevity and add spice to the story.

Have you started shooting?

I will start shooting from April 11.

Ekta brought back Smriti Irani to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu. In that context, Prachi may also return as Bani. Doesn't it make you feel insecure?

I have no problem with it. If they want to bring Prachi back, I will be happy to vacate the seat. She is most welcome. After all, she made the character popular.

Have your worked with Balaji before?

No. This the first time I will be working with them and I am really excited about it.
