Video: When Bollywood Attacks

Bollywood is often all about the bloat.

Sure, we're great storytellers, but usually embellish simple tales with melodrama, glitz, and several shades of excess. And while we certainly handle kitsch with panache -- and proudly, defiantly so -- there are times when we overdo the tamasha.

Recently, we took a tender, lovely romance, a classic short story, and while the unsuspecting pages lay open to reinterpretation, Bollywood jumped them, hard. The resulting ravage was unrecognisable from the original, the story's heart muffled under the inane madness.

Here -- shot by Raja Sen with willing friends on a Sunday afternoon -- is a glimpse of life, before Bollywoodism sets in.

Check it out in full-screen, and -- here's where the fun begins -- go make your own film.

Go out, write a quick script, give us your take on a contemporary film or just review a movie in your own unique way. How would you have made Om Shanti Om? Or Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag? Add it to Rediff iShare and share it with the world.

The best films will be showcased on Rediff -- and you never know where that might lead you.

Go on, have a blast, and invite us to watch you at it.
