Wrong. Just when Amitabh Bachchan was creating ripples up north with his action-comedies, Rajni started the trend down south with Thambikku entha ooru.
Though his first comedy Thillu Mullu was a hit, Rajni had decided to stay away from full-length comedies in keeping with his action hero image. But when director Rajashekar approached him with an action comedy, he was swayed. He went ahead with the movie and the Rajni juggernaut got a new formula to thrive on: the action comedy.
Not only does Rajni follow the formula to this day, many other action stars have also taken this route to stardom.
