'Every musician should learn classical music'

Manish: Which contemporary songs do you like?

Jagjit: Kunal Ganjawala's Bheenge hoth tere from Murder, and Chana ve ghar aaja.

Roop: Tell us about your album Sajda.

Jagjit: It was the biggest moment of my life, a milestone I achieved. Sanjeev Kohli wanted to do an album with Latabai but he was not able to get her time. Finally when he convinced her, I got a chance to sing with her as a newcomer. It was a feather in my cap. She was the one who suggested the title Sajda. It was a memorable event for me.

Roop: You brought Mirza Ghalib to the masses through a television serial of the same name. How was that experience?

Jagjit: Mirza Ghalib was the topmost poet and philosopher. It was due to the efforts of Gulzar and the superb acting of Naseeruddin Shah that Mirza Ghalib could be brought to the masses. I just followed their lead.
