Part I:
'We don't look back in anger any more'

Aamir Khan hasn't seen Swades yet.

The two Bandra boys, Ashutosh Gowariker and Aamir Khan, first met each other almost 20 years ago and spent their early years discussing good and bad cinema. They acted in Holi, directed by Ketan Mehta who has directed Aamir in The Rising.

Ashutosh feels because Aamir has been busy with his first release in four years he hasn't been able to make time for Swades.

When Ashutosh made Baazi, even Aamir in the lead could not save the film from a bad run.

Then, after two flops, came Lagaan. At a time when his career as a director was almost over, Ashutosh went with the script to Aamir. The enigmatic star believed in him and supported him to the hilt.

The rest is legend.

In this part of the interview with Archana Masih, Gowariker reveals how Aamir protected and nurtured him as a director.
