That lends itself to a slightly documentary approach. But I wanted to do that. That's the maqsad (motive), the main intention of the film. I feel there is entertainment, humour, I won't call it comedy, there's romance, music and along with that is a bit of a message.
Many people reacted that 'bijli thodi problem hain gaon mein, kya research kiya hain,' what does he know? Mohan Bhargav cannot come and talk around like this. I got reactions like this, to which I humbly submit.
I say, yes you are right and I will concentrate more on my research next time but I don't want to tell them that they missed the film. Because when you make a movie, you somehow need to keep the lowest common denominator in mind if you want the film to become palatable. Otherwise the film will remain in Malabar Hill, Pali Hill and the Venice Film Festival.
I don't want to do that. I want to make a film that reaches out. That is why Shah Rukh Khan.
