Rog was shot in a 36-day start to finish schedule…

Actually, it took us 37 days because we added a song. My husband Munish Makhija calls me a taskmaster. I do a lot of pre-production and make sure I am absolutely ready before going on the sets. The exercise of good filmmaking with budgets like mine is like firefighting.

If I take 40 days for shooting, then I take 80 to 100 days to plan the details, avoid wastage and confusion on the sets. A film might go on the floors next year, but I start thinking immediately what my heroine would wear so that I am very clear. I've watched up-close, as an actress, the way my time would get wasted by other productions. So I know where I could go wrong.

Why don't you cast the usual Bollywood actors?

They do not fit my scheme of things! Somebody's stardom cannot make my film. There is no guarantee at the end of the day. Garv gets a tremendous opening with Salman Khan but Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha starring Preity Zinta, Bhumika Chawla and Salman doesn't even get a 26 percent opening!

So I would rather make my films my way with new people. Also, you can't wait for three years to make a film! There are five stars and about a hundred movies to be made. You have to camp outside a star's house and make that your life. I am in the business of making stars, not in the business of chasing them! If tomorrow, somebody happens to be a star and wants to do film with me, I would love to.

But at this point, I don't need it because I'm happy doing X amount of work. I sell my film for a small amount, and make a marginal profit. I am not looking at making a killing with every film.
