Have you given up acting?
No. For me, acting is a great affair. If I leave my house to act in a film, it must be a film that allows me to take a giant step towards a part of me that I don't even know exists. It is a locked door that suddenly opens up in the course of my performance.
If I find a challenging role and a director who has conviction, then I would love to act. Besides, it would be luxury to be on the set and not worry about whether lunch has arrived, whether someone has fallen sick, whether the outfits have arrived etc.
I am lucky because I have always got good roles. I started acting at 17. I quit acting at 28. I've played a variety of roles from Daddy to Zakhm and Everybody Says I'm Fine.
I will always be an actor first. It's amazing how much acting you have to do when you are not acting! With Udita and Ilene, I had to actually act out scenes and show them.
I would love to do a comedy.
